How It All Began

Just after I had my second child…

I was working for myself, juggling a never-ending list of responsibilities—postpartum hormones, homemaking, grad school, and two kids under two. I was constantly overwhelmed. The TV was on way more than I ever wanted it to be. “Elmo’s World” became our default morning routine—not because I wanted it to, but because I didn’t know how else to manage. I needed that time just to shower, feed the baby, clean up, make breakfast… and that didn’t even touch my work demands.

What started as one episode became several hours of screen time. I told myself it was the only way anything would get done. But after a few weeks, I could feel the guilt settling in. I was either working and feeling like I was neglecting my kids—or playing with my kids while everything else fell apart. Balance felt completely out of reach.

Then one morning, I’d had enough. I grabbed a white piece of paper and a Crayola marker and wrote:
“This week let’s learn ROCKS, VOLCANO, and CAVE.”

It’s no exaggeration to say that moment changed our life.

That piece of paper became the spark that brought play, purpose, and presence into our home again. I realized I didn’t need perfection. I just needed intention. XO Playtime was born from that moment—simple, connected, educational play that brought our family closer while giving me the structure I craved.

Now, years later, my kids are older.

We’re past most of the diapers and nap times—but I’m still learning how to show up intentionally in this new season. I’ve realized the need for presence and purpose doesn’t go away as our kids grow—it just looks different. That’s why I’m bringing XO Playtime back, but with a new name and a deeper mission.

Rising Roots is about cultivating a strong, intentional family culture—through play, through rhythm, through connection. It’s about noticing the little things, making memories on purpose, and choosing the kind of mother I want to be. It’s about anchoring our values in everyday life, while still letting joy and spontaneity bloom.

This new chapter isn’t about perfectly curated days. It’s about simple, soul-filling moments that remind me why motherhood matters so much to me. It’s about growing strong roots, together.

Rising Roots is here to help us thrive as a family—through every season of growth.
